Overview
Backyard Blueprints is a shed design app made by Backyard Blueprints LLC, a Massachusetts partnership. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it. We keep collection minimal and do not sell your data.
Data We Collect
The app requires no account. When you use it:
- Shed configurations — your current design (dimensions, roof type, door/window positions) is sent to our server to generate the 3D model and build plan. This contains no personal information and is not stored server-side.
- Anonymous device identifier — a randomly generated ID stored on your device and used only for analytics. It is not linked to your identity.
- Usage events — actions like opening the app, using undo, exporting a PDF, or generating a build plan are logged anonymously via PostHog.
- Saved designs — stored locally on your device only. We do not have access to them.
All data sent between your device and our server is transmitted over HTTPS using industry-standard encryption.
Analytics — PostHog
We use PostHog to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. PostHog collects:
- Anonymous device identifier
- App usage events (features used, shed sizes designed, exports)
- Platform and device type
PostHog is configured with cookies disabled. Events are queued locally when offline and sent when a connection is restored.
Opt out: You can disable analytics at any time in the app's Settings panel. We also honor the Global Privacy Control signal — if your browser sends it, analytics are automatically disabled.
Affiliate Links — Amazon, Home Depot, and Lowe's
When you use the "Build My Cart" feature, materials links are generated using affiliate programs with Amazon, The Home Depot, and Lowe's. Clicking these links may set cookies on those retailers' sites per their own privacy policies. We receive aggregate commission data but not your personal information from these retailers.
When you click affiliate links, those retailers may use cookies or similar technologies to serve you interest-based advertising on their platforms and partner networks, per their own privacy policies. To opt out of interest-based advertising:

Bug Reports
If you submit a bug report through the app, the report text and any attached screenshot are sent to our private GitHub repository. Do not include personal information in bug reports.

Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not log IP addresses at the application level
- We do not embed advertising trackers in the app
- We do not sell your data to third parties
- We do not use browser cookies in the app (PostHog cookies are disabled)
Children's Privacy
The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The core app requires no account and collects no personal data, so there is no mechanism for a child's personal information to be gathered. If you believe your child has provided personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
Your Rights
Any user may contact us at [email protected] to request confirmation of what data we hold about them. Since the app collects no personal information linked to your identity, we will confirm that no identifiable data is held.
If you are an EU or California resident, you have additional rights regarding your personal data, including access, correction, deletion, and portability. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.
Data Retention
Anonymous analytics events are retained for 12 months on PostHog's cloud infrastructure, after which they are automatically deleted.
Changes to This Policy
We will update this page when our practices change and revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes to data practices will be communicated via an in-app notification or an updated Store listing. Continued use of the app after the effective date of non-material changes constitutes acceptance of those changes.
